Google Summer of Code 2026
Tiled is participating in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) for the second time! We had a very successful first time back in 2017, where 3 student projects were instrumental in shaping the eventual Tiled 1.1 release.
Since the announcement of the Mentoring Organizations, we’ve experienced a wave of interested students, many starting to work on open issues to get familiar with the codebase. Some have already submitted multiple pull requests. It will take some days for me to get around to all of them, but I really appreciate the interest and try to respond as good as I can.
Project Proposals
Applications for GSoC contributors will be open March 16-31. We’ve provided a list of project ideas but are also open to any other project. Note that we’re not a large organization and can unfortunately only mentor up to 3 contributors as part of GSoC 2026!
Until then, please use the time to get familiar with Tiled development, and to let us get to know you as well. Your help will be very appreciated and you can learn a lot from the experience, even if you don’t end up doing a project with us this summer.
Call for Mentors
At the moment we have two mentors. I am mostly available full time and dogboydog, a regular contributor to Tiled since a while, has also agreed to be a mentor. We’d like to be able to accept more proposals, so if you’re reading this and have some experience with Tiled and the related technologies (C++, Qt), please consider if this might be something for you and get in touch!
Thanks!
Thanks to Google for running this program and putting their trust in our organization for the second time! Also thanks to dogboydog for helping as a mentor! Finally thanks to all interested contributors who are already making an impact on future Tiled releases!
Talking about releases, today I am putting Tiled 1.12 on “string freeze” so translators can make sure the translations are complete. It’s been a while since the last new features release and the changelog is huge. It would be good to get this out before GSoC starts!
